Have you ever questioned yourself about whether you are truly good? Some people pretend to be nice but harbor corrupt thoughts, while others may act rude but perform good deeds without seeking recognition. How do we measure whether a person is good or bad? What validates these thoughts?

I have been friends with people from all walks of life, and from that experience, I have learned that people rarely change. In my view, people are skilled actors, capable of deceiving and pretending to be someone they are not. It’s not entirely their fault; to fit in and ensure survival in a group, people often change some of their characteristics to blend in. We’ve all been there, right? Acting or speaking a certain way to avoid standing out.

But the real question is, are you a good person?

Since childhood, we have heard the term “good person.” If we do something our parents ask, they compliment us by saying, “Good boy” or “Good girl.” My father used to call me a good girl whenever I did something great or just completed a task. Why did I thrive on hearing my father say that being good is important? The simple definition of a good person is more complicated. A good person embodies a combination of qualities and values that they impart in their own lives and those of others.

The first quality considered for a good person is loyalty. Then we consider someone good when they are honest, kind, empathetic, and willing to learn and grow.

Are you a loyal person? Have you ever made someone trust you and then broken that trust? Saying sorry is easy, but it doesn’t matter whether you did it intentionally or unintentionally. Once the damage is done, it’s done. We’ve all been there. Why, then, is loyalty considered good?

Many people act as though they are perfect. This is prevalent on social media, where people judge others from behind their computer screens without knowing their backstory or situation. Commenting and dissing is easy, but when you put yourself in their shoes, it’s different. I’m not claiming that what we see on social media is good or bad or that the person posting is good or bad. All I’m saying is, why can’t we mind our own business?

If you think about it, are we even good people? We’ve all done something in the past. We’ve all been in a place where we hurt others in one way or another. Why are we called good people?.

So, Does that mean we are bad people? No, I guess the real answer is that we are humans. We make mistakes, we learn from them, and we try to make better decisions next time until there is no next time.
