For a technical writer, the real challenge is not simply putting information into words. It is taking something that may be complex and making it feel simple to the person reading it. Whether the writing is direct, instructional, or written in a different style, the effort remains the same: make it as clear as possible, and that starts with the writer.
If you read your own sentence and have to stop to understand what you meant, imagine how the reader will feel. If there is a doubt in your mind while writing it, there is a good chance that the same doubt will reach the reader. Good writing, especially technical writing, is not about showing how much you know. It is about making sure the reader doesn’t have to work hard to understand what you mean.
Sometimes, the hardest part of writing is making something simple.
