Managing your time effectively is crucial to being productive and making the most out of your day. Whether you want to continue a hobby or learn a new skill, it requires dedicated time. In today’s world, where smartphones, OTT platforms, and work occupy most of our time, finding time for ourselves can be challenging. Often, when we do have some free time, we waste it away without doing anything productive. Here are some simple changes you can make to your daily routine to foster the time you need for yourself:

  1. Plan Your Day the Night Before: Planning your day the night before ensures that you make the most of it. A study suggests that the average adult makes 35,000 conscious decisions per day. According to Max Phillips and Jeff Bezos, you can only make three correct decisions to maximize your productivity and impact on life. By reducing the number of random decisions you make each day—such as what to wear, what to eat, and what to do—you can leave your mind fresh for the new day. This allows you to focus your thoughts and decisions on more serious matters.
  2. Stick to Your Routine: “You are what you do every day.” Your future can be predicted by the tasks and work you do in your daily routine. To become the person you wish to be, you have to live as that person now. Assign a to-do list the night before or early in the morning before starting your day. Sticking to your routine consistently sets a realistic standard for what you can accomplish in a day and helps you complete tasks. This will give you a sense of satisfaction at the end of your day. By accomplishing small tasks every day, you will achieve bigger goals in the future. For instance, if you plan to read one book a month, set aside specific times to read. Instead of reading the entire book in one stretch, read a minimum of 10 pages or complete one chapter per day. Finishing small tasks helps you reach your end goal sooner.
  3. Reward Yourself: Our minds can be tricky to manage, and a simple reward system can help ensure that we stay disciplined and on track. Things can go wrong, and distractions can arise, especially when we don’t have any accountability. Unlike work, where a boss looks after our progress, hobbies and personal goals require self-discipline. After completing your tasks, reward yourself with simple things. Even using your mobile phone after completing a task can be a way to look forward to being productive and staying in order.

By following these simple steps, you can be more productive and achieve your goals.
