We often wonder if people can truly change. It’s easy to believe that deep down, we’re fixed – our thoughts, actions, everything. But is that entirely true?

I’ve been thinking about it for a while now: do people really change, or do they simply pretend to change but never actually do? Deep inside, we all know who we are, what our thoughts are like, and what we do when no one is watching us. I’ve read that change is constant and that people often adapt according to the situation. We’re wired for survival, and part of that involves changing. But the real question is: can we really change who we are?

You’ve probably heard the saying, “Once a cheater, always a cheater.” Why do people say that? Is it because individuals really don’t change, or because they tried and failed? You can tell someone to change, but they might not be able to do it just because you want them to. They change only because they wanted to,

There is no definitive answer. A few months back, I watched a video on YouTube that suggested changing is very hard because humans are inclined to stay safe and lazy. Our minds prefer taking breaks over doing hard tasks because they hate expending energy. Does that mean humans cannot change? It’s a complex issue, but it ultimately depends on one factor: YOU

Changing into the person you aspire to be or the person your loved ones want you to be is challenging. There is a saying, “In a war, a person can fight hundreds of men, but he cannot fight his own mind.” Our minds are very good at deceiving us. So, while change is constant, we live a life we see fit.
The Key to Change

The answer lies within ourselves. Do we truly desire change? Are we striving to become the person we envision, or someone others want us to be? Our internal compass matters most.

Taking Action:

Change requires action. Here’s a simple exercise:

Write it down: Visualize your desired future. What problems hinder you? Writing clarifies your goals and creates a roadmap.

Start small: Taking the first step is crucial. Next, take action. If you have read my previous blogs on “How to Be Productive,” you’ll remember I mentioned that taking the first step is always hard. But once you take that first step, you can figure things out along the way, making the journey fruitful and a great way to learn to change. Whatever your goal might be, you have to follow a certain pattern or system.

Habits are your allies: Change happens through habits. What’s the difference between habits and routines? Habits are like being on autopilot mode. Without much effort, you do something because it works best for you. For example, you cook your favorite biryani with the same steps and ingredients because you love the outcome. While drinking tea, you might eat biscuits as well; it’s a trigger on autopilot. So whenever you drink tea or coffee, you crave biscuits. Likewise, create a trigger within you; that works for sure.

Embrace the Journey:

As BoJack Horseman reminds us, change is a daily effort. It’s not always easy, but the rewards are worth it. Remember, you control your mind, not the other way around.

By following these steps, you can embark on a transformative journey and become the person you aspire to be.
